eric was born in boston, ma and raised in martha's vineyard, ma. at age 8, he fell from a tree and suffered head trauma; as a result, his eyesight was negatively affected. he underwent years of optometric vision therapy, and had laser eye surgery (though it did not completely correct his vision issues, due to brain trauma being the main cause). as a child he wore glasses with corrective lenses. when he was 15 years old, his parents divorced; his father was granted sole custody of all three boys, and they moved to los angeles, ca.
eric was not a popular kid in school to begin with, and a move mid-way through high school proved even more difficult for him. he concentrated on computer technology, gaining a college degree in media production at UCLA. he jumped on with buzzfeed based out of los angeles, which specialized in producing entertainment videos on youtube, facebook, and their native website.
originally, eric preferred to be behind the camera--editing sound, editing video, and eventually producing. but after developing and producing one of the website's most popular video series (based on travel and food), it was inevitable that eric would gain a fan following. as such, the company began to encourage him to appear in videos, both in that series and otherwise. along with his own series, he appeared in videos sporadically including drunk single people review valentine's day gifts and people guess cheap vs. expensive steaks, among others. the videos he appeared in gained more popularity than others, and soon eric was well known throughout the buzzfeed fanbase as a media personality.
los angeles had served eric well, and in 2018 he'd been feeling a certain pull toward san francisco. he parted ways with buzzfeed on good terms, moving to san francisco and launching his own personal youtube channel. as of late, he has gained a considerable following (his recent milestone was one million subscribers in july 2020)--however, plenty of people still don't recognize him on the street... and he's totally okay with that. and, he's wearing contacts now!
